Within my classes I include two of the main branches of Qigong, with one practice leading on to the other. Firstly there is Five Elements Qigong practice, which comes under the branch of Medical Qigong. More in depth information on this practice can be found on the Five Elements page. Secondly there is branch of Spiritual Qigong which is discussed below
Medical Qigong Practice
Medical Qigong is a branch of Chinese medicine that has been practiced for over 4,000 years. It is a powerful yet simple practice that clears away stress and brings our entire system in balance and into a more natural flow. With medical Qigong we are working with the body’s energy system in a way that clears away blocked energy and opens up and optimises our 12 primary energy pathways, or meridian lines all of which are uniquely linked with the organs in our body. When energy is open and optimised our general health and sense of wellbeing improves and many symptoms we may have been experiencing lessen or disappear completely.
Chinese medicine is very much focused on preventing ill health from occurring rather than treating ill health when it occurs. Medical Qigong is no different and those who practice on a regular basis find that they experience less ill health within their lives, or that if ill health does occur it is milder and shorter lived.
With a focus on deep breathing, clearing, mindfulness and meditation Qigong practice will turn off your repetitive mind, give you space to release pent up emotions and take you far away from the stressed state you may have unknowingly been held within. When we hold on to emotions, get lost in repetitive thoughts and are feeling under stress a lot of vital energy can become blocked and expended which can be extremely detrimental to not only our mental but also our physical health. It can also lead to tightness and tension being held in the body which is experienced as pain, aches and stiffness, all symptoms that are improved upon when we open up and free our body’s energy within the class.
It is believed today that up to 95% of GP visits and health problems are stress related.
Another wonderful aspect of Qigong is that it can be practiced at any age and fitness level. It can also be practiced whilst sat down, which really does open it up to almost everyone!
Spiritual Qigong Practice
The second branch of Qigong that I teach within classes is Spiritual Qigong. This includes The Three Treasures Practice and The Microcosmic Orbit. More information on both of these can be found on their respective pages.
When we become more practiced at working with and experiencing our bodies energy through regular Five Elements Practice we open ourselves up to a whole new way of experiencing not only ourselves but also the world around us. We become more connected with who we really are as our thoughts, emotions and physical energy start to run in harmony with each other. The energy in our body is positive, healing and more abundant.
Within this state we are more open to our more eternal and spiritual self and our true connection to the universe around us. Practicing the Three Treasures and Microcosmic Orbit will takes you much deeper into this experience and can be completely life changing.
